The Science

The IPL system releases short pulses of filtered light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within freckles, sunspots or liver spots.

The rapid absorption of light energy heats the melanin and eradicates the melanin-rich cells.

In the next few days/weeks after your treatment, you will notice the pigmented lesions will begin to darken and create a micro-crust.

The excess melanin will then shed naturally.

The Treatment

Sun spots, liver spots, freckles and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing and sun damage caused by over exposure to the sun or sun beds.

From the age of around 40 the skin is less able to regenerate from sun exposure and age spots start to appear.

Generally these age spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and create a patchy, less youthful appearance.

Freckling and age spots are successfully lightened or removed with Intense Pulse Light (IPL).

What to Expect

Following an in-depth consultation with one of our laser therapists, and patch test will be carried out, to ensure you don't have any adverse reactions to the treatment.

When you return for your first treatment, your therapist will conduct a quick check of the patch test area, and screen for any recent sun exposure, new medication and other contraindications. After this, your treatment will begin.

Your treatment will take place in a bright, clean and airy clinic room, with your therapist ensuring you are comfortable and relaxed throughout.
