The Treatment

Laser hair removal treatment now offers the best solution to remove unwanted hair, which can often be a source of great embarrassment to many people.

The Cutera ND: YAG CoolGlide laser can be used on all a range of skin types, on all parts of the body, almost painlessly.

Laser hair removal can also be an excellent hair management option for those suffering with PCOS (as a form of hair management), for people who are more prone to painful and unsightly ingrown hairs, or anyone who are just fed up of other tedious and painful hair removal options.

The Science

Laser hair removal works by carefully and precisely focusing a laser beam at the hair follicle.

The pigment or melanin in the hair acts as a conductor for the energy being emitted from the laser, which travels down the hair shaft and denatures the hair follicle.

This means the follicle will no longer be able to produce hair. For this to happen the hairs needs to be in to be in the growth (anagen) phase of their life cycle, and unfortunately hairs aren’t synchronized to be in the same phase at one time, which is why we have to carry out multiple treatments, with several week intervals.

This allows the hairs in the resting (telogen) phase to move into the growth phase and become a suitable for laser hair removal.

What to expect

Following an in-depth consultation with one of our laser therapists, and patch test will be carried out, to ensure you don't have any adverse reactions to the treatment.

When you return for your first treatment, your therapist will conduct a quick check of the patch test area, and screen for any recent sun exposure, new medication and other contraindications. After this, your treatment will begin.

Your treatment will take place in a bright, clean and airy clinic room, with your therapist ensuring you are comfortable and relaxed throughout.

Pre Treatment Advice
Do not expose the skin to UV light (sun exposure and/or the use of tanning beds) or self tanners for at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment.

Please shave the area to be treated 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Try to avoid moisturisers or perfumed products in the area 24 hours prior to your appointment.

If the treated area is often exposed, please apply an SPF 50 daily as a moisturiser, regardless of the weather.

Avoid heavy exfoliation, microdermabrasion or chemical peels for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

Please inform your aesthetician of any complications or changes to your medication prior to your appointment

The laser will only target hair in the anagen (active) growing phase. Therefore there is no advantage to scheduling treatment sessions closer together. Should you need to change an appointment, we will always aim the make the appointment later rather than sooner.
Post Treatment Advice
Do not apply pressure or hot water to the treated area within 48 hours of procedure.

SPF necessary whilst in sunlight, and facial moisturizers are advised to keep your skin healthy after the treatment.

Avoid heavy or strenuous exercise for 24 hours post treatment.

Avoid using heavily perfumed products in the treated area for around 24 hours post treatment

Please do not wax, pluck, or thread the hair being treated in between treatments. For the treatment to be effective we need the follicle of the hair intact. Waxing, plucking or thread will dramatically impede the treatment results.
